What is a Horse Trek? – Watch movie

Rajd Western - Góry SowieHorse treking is an interaction with a horse. It’s not a typical ride for a man with a belly, who thinks he can ride properly. To take part in tour you have to be a real rider, a person used to long horse tours, not only a horse’s passenger on a manege. One hour is not enough to ride from time to time. It’s necessary to go on expeditions to field earlier . You should know how to clean horse and put a saddle on it. It’s important to know how to handle with a horse tack in a western style (saddle is much more heavier, tough and it allows you to take a baggage). It’s different than a classic saddle. You have to manage in a difficult conditions – when it is raining, when horse is frightened, when you have to walk next to your horse during straw uphill and downhill rides or not to put heavy burden on horse’s spine. You mustn’t care about calluses or abrasions that you get during tour. You ignore fatigue and discomfort. The most important matter is a horse. You have to respect and love it, because it’s your “to be or not to be”. You take care about it whole time when a tour lasts – you are responsible for it. Thanks to it you will experience a great adventure. You must trust it, and it must trust you. It must be sure that you won’t direct it to a dangerous place, that you won’t hurt it. Neglects are unacceptable, f.e. you forget about cleaning hoofs, so a horse can lame and it can’t go farther. Weaker riders begin with a short tours: one-, two- or three-day long. If you are not burden for others, for a horse and you don’t become tired too fast you can go on longer tours. Equipment that you have to take with you on a tour:

- rain jacket or something that protects you from rain during a ride

- something on your head- hat or helmet

- camera :)

- dry food supplies, you eat a meal on the way, more food you can buy during ride through the village or town

- clothes and shoes which can be destroyed in difficult conditions and you don’t care about them, comfortable and solid

We begin our tour with checking in – assigning horses to everyone, cleaning them and saddling, we also recall horse riding rules in a western style and rules of safety during our tour. We fasten equipment to the saddles, we determine sequence of horses taking part in tour, we receive short information about planned way of our tour. We go even if it is raining! Our expeditions are directed to the different ranges of Sudety. We start out, a little bit walking, a little bit jogging, small sections, looping if a surface is good (horse is tired of monotonous speed so rythm should be often changed). Horses are watered in encountered streams. We ride through the country roads, we pass the hills, valleys, fields, forests, rivers. We watch attractions passed by on the way. After three, four hours of riding it’s time for stop – horse can have a rest, you can eat something . You have to unsaddle a horse, check if it doesn’t have chafes and injuries on its back. 6-8 hours daily spent on the saddle. That’s how it works till the evening. Sun goes down. We get to the place where we’ll be sleeping. Mostly they are agrtouristic houses, pensions or guesthouses in mountains - checked places where is a place also for our horses. No one thinks about the rest. Firstly we must feed and give water to animals, then we can eat a dinner, light a fire and talk till the morning , drinking whisky… :)

Sleep, wake – up, breakfast, feeding and cleaning horses and… another day on the way. You ride, stiffen, you grow in strenght. You learn perseverance and slow travel. You see Poland from a horseback. It seems completely different than from behind car’s windows, from the streets in big cities or from screen of TV. You calm down, have a rest from the monotony and rush of everyday life, stress, duties. You begin to talk with other people in different way. You get used to the rhytm of travel.

The days go by… Journey goes on… Journey which can’t be replaced by urban entertainment or recreation in warm countries. It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet the requirements. Our qualified instructors will teach you everything, you can read about them in section called TEAM, and see the fotos from tours in section GALLERY.
